Workspace Desktop
from Starfield Technologies
What is Workspace Desktop?
Once installed the program creates a shortcut on the desktop called 'Workspace Desktop'. The tool promotes its use as an extension of the GoDaddy web interface, allowing users added functionality, such as drag-and-dropping media files into their GoDaddy web based email client, desktop notification, and others. The program runs silently in the background and never shows any visible signs of its presence except for system resource usage, which has also been found by some users to at times be notably high.
Overview
It adds registry entry for the current user which will allow the program to automatically start each time it is rebooted. Upon being installed, the software adds a Windows Service which is designed to run continuously in the background. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The primary executable is named desktoptools.exe. The setup package generally installs about 28 files and is usually about 24.28 MB (25,455,287 bytes). The installed file workspaceupdate.exe is the auto-update component of the program which is designed to check for software updates and notify and apply them when new versions are discovered.
