VLC media player 2.1.4
What is VLC media player? (from VideoLAN Team)
VLC is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player and framework that plays most multimedia files as well as DVD, Audio CD, VCD, and various streaming protocols.
Overview
VLC media player 2.1.4 is a software program developed by VideoLAN Team. During setup, the program registers itself to launch on boot through a Windows Schedule Task in order to automatically start-up. Upon being installed, the software adds a Windows Service which is designed to run continuously in the background. Manually stopping the service has been seen to cause the program to stop functing properly. It adds a background controller service that is set to automatically run. Delaying the start of this service is possible through the service manager. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The primary executable is named vlc.exe. The setup package generally installs about 24 files and is usually about 71.58 MB (75,060,028 bytes). Relative to the overall usage of users who have this installed on their PCs, most are running Windows 7 (SP1) and Windows 10. While about 28% of users of VLC media player come from the United States, it is also popular in Germany and France.
