What is FreeOCR? (from Softi Software)
FreeOCR is a totaly free Scan and OCR program it very accurate and uses the open source Tesseract OCR Engine. It is very easy to use and supports opening multipage Tiff and PDF documents. The extracted text can be edited and exported to your word processor.
Overview
FreeOCR 3.0 is a program developed by Softi Software. A scheduled task is added to Windows Task Scheduler in order to launch the program at various scheduled times (the schedule varies depending on the version). The software is designed to connect to the Internet and adds a Windows Firewall exception in order to do so without being interfered with. The main program executable is FreeOCR.exe. The software installer includes 13 files and is usually about 3.04 MB (3,189,129 bytes). Updater.exe is the automatic update component of the software designed to download and apply new updates should new versions be released. In comparison to the total number of users, most PCs are running the OS Windows 7 (SP1) as well as Windows Vista (SP2). While about 48% of users of FreeOCR come from the United States, it is also popular in Germany and United Kingdom.
